    The main learning objectives of the “Fish Applied Nutrition” program include:

    1. Understanding the importance of essential nutrients in fish nutrition.

    1. Understand the context and structure of global aquaculture, along with the challenges related to fish nutrition in this sector.
    2. Identify various types of nutrients, raw materials, and additives used in fish nutrition, understanding their beneficial and detrimental roles in fish nutrition and health.
    3. Be equipped to identify and describe different laboratory methodologies used in analyzing the nutritional value of raw materials, enabling you to make informed decisions in ingredient selection and evaluation.
    4. Recognize and describe the components of the fish digestive system and understand their functions, providing you with a comprehensive view of how and where nutrient digestion and absorption occur in fish.
    5. Gain an understanding of the concept of immunonutrition, providing you with the foundations to assess strategies in the field of nutrition and health for farmed fish.
    6. Master the fundamental concepts of diet formulation, acquiring the necessary skills to use formulation tools and create specific balanced diet recipes tailored to the nutritional needs of different fish species.
    7. Learn the basic criteria for evaluating and understanding production parameters, integrating the theoretical and practical knowledge gained in the Fish Applied Nutrition program. This will facilitate better decision-making and solution design.
    8. Identify the histological and omics tools that best suit your needs. You will know when to use them and fully appreciate their importance in the comprehensive evaluation of fish nutrition and health.

    Dr. Felipe Reveco Urzúa

    Founder & CEO, IFarming

    PhD Animal Nutrition, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway

    Dr. Felipe Reveco Urzúa holds a Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences in Norway. He also has a Master’s in Science in Poultry and Animal Science from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, and he is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Chile.
    Over the last 13 years, his focus has been primarily on the salmon industry, with particular attention to Canada and Norway. He has collaborated with leading companies in the industry, both from the private sector and academia, bringing his expertise in areas such as strategy, production, nutrition, health, and research. He is the founder of IFarming, an initiative aimed at helping the aquaculture industry optimize its resources, benefiting producers, suppliers, and new participants in the sector.

    Alejandro Capdeville Steffens, a graduate in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of Valparaíso, stands out as a specialist with over 35 years of experience in various fields. His professional expertise spans formulation and development of raw materials for aquaculture, the production of aquaculture feed, quality control, applied research, product registration, and teaching roles as a director of internships and undergraduate theses at different universities.
    In his capacity as a partner and owner of Bel-Cap SpA, he has applied his knowledge to provide guidance in the formulation and development processes of aquaculture raw materials. He has been an active figure in creating value for various food factories and ingredient and additive suppliers in the industry.

    Dr. Adrián Hernández

    Associate professor, Catholic University of Temuco 

    PhD Aquatic Bioscience, Tokyo University of Marine Sciences and Technology, Japan

    Dr. Adrián Hernández is an Associate Professor of the Department of Agricultural and Aquaculture Sciences of the Faculty of Natural Resources at the Catholic University of Temuco (UC Temuco). He is also part of the Fish Nutrition and Physiology Laboratory and the Food Production Research Center of UC Temuco. Furthermore, he belongs to the academic staff of the doctoral and master´s program in Agricultural Sciences from UC Temuco. In addition, Dr. Hernández is a member of the editorial committee of the magazine “Aquaculture” and reviewer for numerous international magazines specialized in aquatic animal production and feeding.

    His general research interest is focused on the study of fish nutrition and feeding, feed manufacturing and processing technologies. In the course of his research activities, he has dealt with different aspects of fish nutrition with the aim of characterizing the nutritional value of various protein ingredients and seeking ways to overcome their usage restrictions. Finally, Dr. Hernández has been carrying out projects and experiments in collaboration with national and international groups and institutions.

    Dr. Alex Romero

    Dr. Alex Romero is a Biochemist with a Ph.D. in Sciences, specializing in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He is a full professor at the Universidad Austral de Chile. Dr. Romero heads the Laboratory of Immunology and Stress in Aquatic Organisms at the same university and is an associate researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research (INCAR). In his teaching and research activities, he has focused on the molecular study of defense mechanisms in fish and their modulation by stressful stimuli and pathogen infections.
    In recent years, he has worked on the in vitro and in vivo scientific validation of natural-origin additives as biotechnological tools for the treatment of diseases in fish, associated with the development of non-pharmacological strategies for new therapeutic targets in bacterial pathogens.

    Dra. Andrea Peña is a Civil Biochemical Engineer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile, and a Ph.D. holder in Sciences from the University of Bielefeld, Germany. Currently, she serves as the Laboratory and R&D Manager at Pathovet Labs, where she has been responsible for formulating, managing, and coordinating research and development projects and establishing collaborative networks with national and international companies and research entities. Dr. Peña has extensive experience in the aquaculture industry and laboratories, where she has been in charge of developing new and innovative diagnostic services for the salmon and tilapia industries, focusing on the comprehensive study of immune responses, physiological processes, and metabolic processes in fish.

    Dra. Carla Dos Anjos holds a Ph.D. in Genomics and Biotechnology from the Catholic University of Brasília, Brazil. Additionally, she has a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from the Federal University of Viçosa, Brazil, and an MSc in Molecular Genetics from the University of São Paulo. She is currently an entrepreneur and a bioinformatics expert.     Carlos Hein is a Fisheries Engineer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso with an MBA awarded by the University of Desarrollo. Professor Hein has more than 20 years of experience in the salmon industry. He has held prominent roles in research, fish production, nutrition, and feeding in leading companies in the industry. His contribution has been vital in the development of nutritional and feeding strategies at the national and international levels, leading notable projects. He currently serves as the Product Manager for grow-out diets at Skretting Chile.
    Professor Hein is known for his extensive experience in salmonid production and feeding, from spawning to harvest, both in freshwater and marine environments. His education, work experience, and leadership solidify his position as a reference in the salmon industry.

    Dr. Jorge Pino is a Food Engineer with an MSc and PhD in Natural Resource Sciences from the University of La Frontera, Chile. For over 15 years, he has worked at Cargill Aqua Nutrition (formerly EWOS) in the field of development and research of nutritional solutions for aquaculture, including areas related to the immunology and health of salmonids. He has been involved in the development of functional diets to reduce salmon lice infestations.     Dr. Marta Bou Mira

    Marta Bou Mira has a degree in Marine Sciences from the University of Vigo, Spain and has two M.Sc in Aquaculture; one studied at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the other studied at the University of Barcelona. In addition, she also holds a PhD degree in Animal and Aquaculture Sciences, Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Norway. She has been working in the nutrition and feed technology department,at Nofima since 2013, focusing on lipid nutrition in fish, mainly salmonids. One of her research areas of particular interest is the study of the minimum nutritional requirements for the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA and the impact of these fatty acids on the health and productive performance of salmonids.

    Dr. Patricio Dantagnan is an Aquaculture Engineer, Marine Biologist, and holds a Ph.D. in Marine Sciences from the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain. He is a full professor in the Department of Agricultural and Aquaculture Sciences at the Catholic University of Temuco and serves as the Director of the Fish Nutrition and Physiology Laboratory (www.acuicultura.uct.cl/nutricion), which he founded. His research primarily revolves around lipid and fatty acid nutrition and how they interact with other nutrients. His industry-related work focuses mainly on evaluating ingredients, supplements, and additives in fish diets. He maintains collaborations with researchers, universities, and research centers in Chile and abroad.
    Additionally, Dr. Dantagnan is a professor in the Doctoral Program in Agricultural Sciences at the Catholic University of Temuco and a guest professor in the Doctoral Program in Aquaculture of the consortium formed by the University of Chile, Catholic University of the North, and Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso. He also teaches in the Doctoral Program in Aquaculture at the University of Austral Chile.

    Dr. Ruth Montero is a Chilean biochemist from the Faculty of Chemistry and Biology at the University of Santiago de Chile. She holds a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences with a specialization in Biotechnology and Applied Immunology from the joint doctoral program between Universität Greifswald and Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut in Germany. From the beginning, she has been interested in studying fish immunology and enjoys the challenges of working in this field.
    Since 2011, she has been involved in various projects related to the identification and functional characterization of the immune system and responses in trout and salmon. In recent years, her work has focused on fish vaccination and how environmental signals and stimuli (season, photoperiod, nutrition, food ingredients, pathogens) modulate the immune responses of salmonids. She is currently working on chronoinmunonutrition at the Department of Animal and Aquaculture Sciences (IHA) at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
